This spell wards a creature from attacks by creatures, from mental control, and from summoned creatures. It creates a magical barrier around the subject at a distance of 1 foot. The barrier moves with the subject and has two major effects.

Barrier
First, the subject gains a +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves. The subject also gains an additional +2 morale bonus on saving throws against spells or effects that posses or exercise mental control over the creature (including [charm] and [compulsion] effects, such as charm person, command, and dominate person).

Second, the subject immediately receives another saving throw (if one was allowed to begin with) against any spells or effects that possess or exercise mental control over the creature. This saving throw is made with a +2 morale bonus, using the same DC as the original effect. If successful, such effects are suppressed for the duration of this spell. The effects resume when the duration of this spell expires. This spell does not expel a controlling life force (such as a ghost or spellcaster using magic jar), but it does prevent them from controlling the target.

Aligned Ward: When this spell is cast, the caster may choose to focus the magical barrier against a specific alignment (such as chaos, evil, good, or law). If an alignment ward is chosen, this spell gains the opposing alignment subtype (so a ward against Evil gains the [Good] subtype, while a ward against Chaos would gain the [Law] subtype, etc). Applying a ward to the barrier has the following effects on the spell.

The barrier provides its normal effects against Neutral aligned creatures, and doubles its effects against its opposed alignment, but has no effect against creatures that share the spell's alignment. For example, a protection from evil ward grants a +4 deflection bonus to AC, a +4 resistance bonus on saves, and a +4 morale bonus against effects that exercise control over the subject if the attacker is an Evil creature, the normal +2 against a Neutral creature, and no bonus against a Good creature.

The barrier makes the subject immune to effects that posses or exercise mental control over the creature that originate from aligned sources opposed to the ward (such as a succubus demon's charm effects against a creature warded against chaos or evil) while the spell is active.

The barrier prevents bodily contact by summoned creatures that have an alignment opposed to the ward if (such as an evil creature attacking someone warded against evil). This causes the natural weapon attacks of such creatures to fail and the creatures to recoil if such attacks require touching the warded creature. This benefit has no effect against summoned creatures not of the alignment warded against. The protection against contact by summoned creatures ends if the warded creature makes an attack against or tries to force the barrier against the blocked creature. Spell Resistance can allow a creature to overcome this protection and touch the warded creature.
