Gnomes

Gnomes are one of the great enigmas of the world, with one foot in the past and one in the future. Gnomish villages are nestled into forests and hills, houses dug into the grounds in gnomish burrows where they live with nature. Yet seemingly in direct contrast, they are some of the most industrious of all the races in the world, with inquisitive minds for technology, engineering, and magic. As a result, it's not uncommon to find their otherwise mundane barrow homes filled with all manner of strange gears, creatures, and contraptions, and neither an explosion nor good joke are rarely far away.

Gnome Racial Traits

  • Size and Type: Gnomes are small humanoids with the [Gnome] subtype.
    • As small creatures, gnomes gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their Combat Maneuver Bonus and Combat Maneuver Defense, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.
  • Ability Scores: +2 Constitution, +2 Charisma, -2 Strength
  • Speed: Gnomes have a speed of 20 ft.
  • Low-light Vision: Gnomes have low-light vision.
  • Hit the Deck! Gnomes get a +2 dodge bonus to AC.
  • Lab Tolerance!: Gnomes receive a +6 racial bonus on saving throws against Poison, a +4 racial bonus against Disease, and a +2 racial bonus on saves against spells and spell-like abilities.
  • Careful!: Gnomes are skilled with poison and never risk accidentally poisoning themselves when applying it to weapons.
  • Custom Made!: Gnomes gain a +1 bonus on Disable Device and Knowledge (engineering) checks, are are also treated as proficient with any weapon they have personally crafted.
  • Precocious Magic!: Gnomes gain a +2 racial bonus on caster level checks made to overcome spell resistance and a +2 racial bonus on dispel checks.
  • Curious Sorcery!: Gnomes gain a +2 bonus to the DC of any saving throws against illusion spells that they cast. Gnomes with a Charisma score of 11 or higher also gain the following spell-like abilities (the caster level is equal to the user’s character level):
    • Constantnondetection
    • 1/dayblindness/deafness, blur, disguise self, dancing lights, ghost sound, prestidigitation, speak with animals.
    • The DC is equal to 10 + the spell’s level + the user’s Charisma modifier.
  • Languages: Gnomes begin play speaking Common, Gnome, and Sylvan. Gnomes with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Goblin, and Orc.
